cures for the mensies and existential apathy: a memoir in upspeak

when my parents told me that i was a girl
i was like

…………wow     okay     cool

when i got my first period
i was like

…………wow     okay     uncool

when grandma and grandpa died in a car crash on christmas day
i was like

…………wow     okay     really     uncool

but then i realized that     my body isn’t permanent
y’know like bodies     how bodies are

it’s pretty effing crazy     like when you see a toad
in the middle of a pond     and you think

…………wow     how     did you get there

but you never find out     because before you find out
a big mutant fish hops out     of the water and eats the toad

then there’s just a lily pad     floating in the middle of the pond
the fish eventually gets eaten too     the toad basically never existed
and you’re like

…………wow     i can’t believe     i wore white pants
