Nicholas Brown | Two Poems

Skipping Amarillo

……………………………………………………………………..offered our fleshy fixtures up as leaky
………………………………………………………………………..faucets my mouth seals you forever
……………………………………………………………………………………..tires searing over a bridge
…………………………………………………………………………………………………..begging a release
we slurp each others humming………………………./…………………………………………..bodies
sun burst hemmed limbs rewrite
our constitutions scribbled amend
maimed promises made whole again
a rupture of pretense pretend waiting…………………………………in rapture fold us in back
…………………………………………………………………………………………..toward our age old acts
…………………………………………………………………………………………………play alone play our
……………………………………………………………………………………………………lines as new lines
visions reimagined underneath………………………………………………………………….forgotten
dusty eyelids caked in mourning
despair watch me wear a rope as
a tie over shoulder out the window
to avoid stains eat alone same thing……………………………………..all week winter wont stop
………………………………………………………………………………//……….failing me my upset cock
……………………………………………………………………………………………..refuses to mediate the
……………………………………………………………………………………………………change of seasons
youre singing that song again……………………………………………………………………………alone
I used to think you sang
while angry now
I see you
sing………………………………………………………………………………………………………………for me
………………………………………………………………………………………………………to hack my head
……………………………………………………………………………………….///…open to bare my teeth
………………………………………………………………………../………………..as an offer to whomever
knows this road where it……………………………………………………..buries us whole in the sky
leads us home cocooned
we watch our wings
we grow we sleep
rise and shine

How to Be

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………your father

………………….mom says

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….is not the way

……………………………………..to be

…………………………………………………………………………………………………….to be more than

…………………………………………………..a mistake

…………………………………………………………………………….to be less than

.
