Valorie K. Ruiz | Poem

To know thy Gods

closed eyes to the watchers in the shadows
angels formed in angles beneath the glittering opal
……………………………………………………………….We seek
ground pearls crushed between teeth in a blackout
room a candle’s amber spills epistolary runes
……………………………………………………………….We decipher
meaning in the night, a swarm of fruit flies with
miniscule feet a tingle beneath skin as code
……………………………………………………………….We unveil
holy onyx existence and let vines shape roots
reaching for the Sun-core of our Earth
……………………………………………………………….We bleed
circles of ferns around redwoods and learn
to lick bark to taste age
……………………………………………………………….We grave
