On Taking Up a Matryoshka Doll Collection

All the people I am missing
Are stacked matryoshka doll style inside you

LOST: LAVENDER AT THE KITCHEN SINK. STEMS FRAYED.
Everyone breaks off my number and keeps it in their pocket

I’m smiling so hard my lip is stuck above teeth
I can’t bring it down and it’s starting to look unnatural

You are fresh with loss and a mullet haircut
Surrounded on all sides by sunlight and temperamental chickens

In his passion to preserve them, Darrel the taxidermist killed all the animals

We are, all of us,
Tied to our own skin
Enhancing meaning through proximity

A concerned citizen comes around to collect
NOTICE: OVERDUE FINES for CONTROLLED INTIMACY

She eyes the wooden dolls, their red coats
Lining the porch in abundant company

I saved my teeth for you, I tell her
Slide the matchbox
Through the mail slot
