TWO POEMS

ZAPHRA STUPPLE

colors for the pointy man

[LIVING ROOM. POINTY MAN. YELLOW] my dolls have hands not much smaller than mine
I rip the arms off my plastic baby doll
my mother pops them back in the sockets

[DARK ROOM. BIG BEARD. BLUE] I am afraid of nothing
………………………………nothing
………………………………nothing
………………………………nothing

[WOODSHOP. CIRCULAR SAW. RED] Landon and I dare each other to sit
in the bathroom with the lights out
Max and I talk about torture

[BED. HAND UNDER BLANKET. WHITE] I used to dream
that nothing was real
almost every night

[COLD ROOM. CAMERA. GREY] my bad habits are coming back

[RED MEANS STOP] he took pictures he took pictures he took

[GREEN MEANS STOP] pictures he took pictures he took

[THERE IS NOTHING BUT STOP] I heard he’s back in town today
